TVEAP Films go to Bali and Kuala Lumpur
Major global conferences to screen documentaries
30 November 2007
Several documentary films produced by TVE Asia Pacific (TVEAP) are lined up to be screened at two major international gatherings hosted by Asia during December 2007.
The events are the 13th United Nations Climate Change Conference in Bali, Indonesia, from 3 to 14 December and the 3rd Global Knowledge Conference in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from 10 to 13 December.

The Bali Conference brings together representatives of over 180 countries together with thousands of observers from inter-governmental and non-governmental organisations, and the media. The two week period includes the sessions of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), its subsidiary bodies as well as the Meeting of the Parties of the Kyoto Protocol.
The Bali meeting will be a turning point in the global response to climate change, an issue which has moved above and beyond being a simple ‘green’ concern to one with economic, security and social implications.
TVEAP's Greenbelts and Lifebelts, part of The Greenbelt Reports series (2006), will be screened at the Development and Climate Days organised by the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED). 'D&C Days' is an event on Climate Change adaptation practices, planning, research and technologies in the development context.
Greenbelts and Lifebelts is a short documentary describes how coastal communities in southern India are restoring or replanting mangrove forests as a ‘bio-shield’ against natural disasters and sea level rise, under advice from the M S Swaminathan Research Foundation.
Meanwhile, several TVEAP films are to be screened at the i4d (information for development) film festival to be held on 9 – 10 December 2007 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Kuala Lumpur.
Several films from TVEAP's Digits4Change series (2006), which looked at how ICTs are changing lives in Asia, are included in the selection. They are Weaving Locally, Trading Globally, Compassionate Data, Dragon Online, Moving Mountains and Connecting Islands.
The i4d film festival is organised by the Centre for Science, Development and Media Studies, India, in partnership with the Global Knowledge Partnership (GKP) and Canada's International Development Research Centre (IDRC).
