Asia Media Summit 2007TVE Asia Pacific (TVEAP) will once again be a co-sponsor of the Asia Media Summit’s 2007 edition.

The Summit, taking place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from 29 to 31 May 2007, will be the largest annual gathering of media managers and senior broadcast professionals from across the AsiaPacific.

ABID logoOrganised by the Asia Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD), it is expected to draw 500 decision-makers, media professionals, scholars and stakeholders of news and programming from Asia Pacific, Africa, Europe, Middle East and North America.

The Summit provides a platform to discuss the role of media in development, particularly in addressing issues such as poverty alleviation, information gaps, and women’s rights. It also provides a view into ways on how media can further the search for open dialogue and a culture of peace.

Among the other co-sponsors of AMS 2007 are UN-ESCAP, UNDP, Friedrich Ebert Stiftung and the Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU).

Poverty, regional conflict and climate change remain current global concerns, yet we see uneven, even lack of media attention on these issues worldwide. The 4th Asia Media Summit as a global media platform will examine these concerns along with other issues -- such as the rise of citizen’s journalism, changing consumer preferences, quest for an Asian approach to public service broadcasting, the impact of globalization and media convergence, and the demands of good governance and women empowerment.

- Dr Javad Mottaghi
   Director, AIBD

Co-sponsoring Asia Media Summit is an important part of regional network for TVE Asia Pacific -- a regional leader in communicating development issues using television, video and the web.

“We have been associated with Asia Media Summit since 2005. This year’s is the first Summit we support since becoming an Affiliate Member of AIBD in mid 2006,” said Nalaka Gunawardene, Director and CEO of TVE Asia Pacific.

Nalaka will speak on the plenary panel ‘Mobilising airwaves against poverty’, to be held on May 30. He will also be a speaker and session chair at a pre-summit workshop on ‘Connecting Communities through Community Broadcasting and ICTs’, to be held on May 28.

The ICT workshop will be one of seven pre-summit activities being lined up, starting from 26 May 2007. All are open to registered delegates to the Summit.
