In 2005, TVEAP was invited to work with the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific - the UN Secretariat's regional arm - on a major advocacy effort in support of the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) in the Asia Pacific. This work was continued in 2006. TVEAP produced a short video film, A Future Within Reach, reviewing the Asia Pacific region's pursuit of the MDGs. On behalf of UN-ESCAP, we also organised a plenary session during Asia Media Summit 2006 on ' Local Content for Global Audience: An uphill battle? Advocacy of the MDGs - Role of Broadcasters'.
In 2006-2007, we worked with the CGIAR Challenge Program on Water and Food, turning their worldwide action research findings into a global television series called Living Labs. It featured scientists and farmers working at different levels to address a major issue in international agriculture and development: how to grow more food with less water in a world that is facing growing shortages of freshwater.
In 2007, we collaborated with the ICT research organisation LIRNEasia in communicating the findings of a major Asian study on telephone use at the bottom of the income pyramid. We produced a short video film, and also ran an interactive quiz during a large international conference in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, that brought together 1,700 leading players from government, industry and civil society.
