Toxic
Trail's impact in the Asia Pacific region has been sustained
and multiplied beyond the initial BBC World broadcast through
a variety of dissemination efforts in the non-broadcast domain.
These follow-up activities have included the production of back-up
print information, a dedicated website,
and the free distribution of VCD and VHS copies of the programmes
across Asia.
In 2002, TVE Asia Pacific commissioned versions of these programmes into several key Asian languages: Bahasa Indonesia, Hindi, Khmer, Mandarin, Sinhala and Thai.
The
clear lesson was that it's not just enough to produce a good television
programme; how much it is seen and used depends on the amount of
promotion and subsidised or free distribution that goes with it.
